The REPR is novel with the side charging handle, but I do not feel that the piston adds anything and I have a hard time justifying the cost in retrospect. The SR25-EMC is excellent, but expensive at more than $4K. Of the ones that I listed, the most practical is probably the MWS, SCAR, or OBR. All of these are also much easier and less expensive to maintain over the long run than the M14/M1A. A DSA FAL is more reliable and durable, but a little less accurate. Thanks for the input. The MWS, OBR, SCAR, REPR, N6 and SR25-EMC are all just as reliable and accurate. I doubt that your father will be carrying this rifle into battle with him though so the cast vs forged thing is probably way overblown. Your going to spend a shit load of money and are going to get a heavy rifle that you cant field strip. Dont go down the road of trying to get 1 MOA accuracy. Forged generally means stronger, but also takes longer to make and is more expensive to make. 18 (100) I think a LRB, Fulton Armory or Smith Enterprises M1A/M14 would be a good rifle provided you have a practical/realistic expectations. The biggest "knock" on them is that they use cast receivers, whereas USGI receivers were forged ( Fulton and Smith use forged receivers). You'll probably find SAI M1A's to be somewhat less expensive. You can do some custom ordering too right on their website. I own an SAI "loaded" edition M1A and another one that I built up from a Fulton Armory barreled receiver and CMP M14 Parts kit. Gunnit Chat Discord Server Meet Ups:Īny "real" M14 is going to be an NFA item due to the select-fire capability so you're really limited to commercial copies, unless you have tens of thousands of dollars to spend.
